Billionaire former Conservative donor Guy Hands has slammed Rishi Sunak for “rowing back” on the Government’s commitment to fighting climate change

to climate change projects in an effort to “reverse some of the damage we have done to our planet” and do “everything we can to reverse the damage for my children and their children to come”.

“In short, the Prime Minister is not doing nearly enough. The UK should be taking a global lead on climate change, not rowing back. Ignorance is not bliss when the world is on fire.” He has said it has long been his intention to step away at 64 – having founded the firm more than 20 years ago – in order to focus on his philanthropic interests with his wife Julia.

“This is something that I am committed to doing despite the financial implications but I am lucky in the sense that a lot of my businesses consist of land so we can make an impact by capturing carbon and planting trees.” These include Mansfield College, Oxford, which they have supported for more than 20 years to increase the number of state school pupils attending to 93 per cent, substantially exceeding all other University of Oxford colleges.
