BBCWorld Sorry but that's ridiculous. People can enjoy their iced coffees/ juices/smoothies in a glass in a restaurant rather than in a single use plastic cup with a lid and straw. Nobody needs stir sticks, metal spoons work. Or plastic cutlery.

'The oil and gas company believes' 'prohibition on single-use plastic could increase CO2' 🤔🤔🤔

BBCWorld Het moet wech gaan met die rot zooi

Explain that to the marine life.

There are dangers and struggles for Plastic in the wildlife. It sure danger to sea life as well. But we need to collect them and burn the plastic for Paper?

BBCWorld The Oil Co.'s subsidiaries are to blame for the spread of Plastic. Plastic is a By-Product of Oil. The people are not making the Plastic bags, containers, bottles etc... It's manufacturing companies. So stop blaming the person in the street for the inept decisions of Industry

BBCPolitics Remain unconvinced but welcome the other side of the debate.

?

Bring on the experts.

BP_plc wants to keep profiting from killing the planet, admits publicity is all lies GreenpeaceEU

Plastic is an invention. Strange that in 21st century instead of properly using/disposing it, you are asking van on it.. what can replace plastic bags and on whose cost? Another step to favour some industry?

No vested interest then BP?

Plastic is just a carbon product like paper except more versatile. We need to find out how to deal with it once it’s used or make it more sturdy & reusable, not throw the baby out with the bath water.

BBCWorld There already is a plastic bag replacement by avani who makes it out of cassava

BBCWorld BP will say anything they think the public will buy. They do NOT want to lose the millions they make via plastic.

BBCWorld

BP's argument has no merit at all since the cost of retrieval & disposal of plastic is 10 timeshigher that that expended for the retrieval of glass & paper products, most of which will breakdown to harmless elements in the ground anyway while plastics have long harmful afterlife.

BBCWorld “Smoking is actually good for you” -Philip Morris

BBCWorld Not could... It already has....

BBCWorld So their argument dies right here (picture below) . If they don't consider a reuse system it'll be obviously be the convinient results they claim. Not only industries should change but us as citizens should change our ways of consumming.

BBCWorld Wow! Corporate deafness times 10!

BBCWorld BP...I still remember the Gulf of Mexico fiasco, I don't trust you.

BBCWorld Also they would like you to know that biking to work creates a significantly higher percentage of pollution than driving large SUV’s/trucks

BBCWorld BP has self interest. We can use recycled paper for most products that are make with plastic now.

Drivel make sure u call out drivel

BBCWorld This is surely the more significant data. Renewables aren't going to reduce consumption.

While not super trustworthy, raises a wider point. Reducing single use plastics is more complex than many assume, lots jump on board with it without considering consequences, like e.g. environmental impact of alternatives, or drastic negatives of strawban on disabled people.

This is misleading. The article is concerned about rising energy demand. The plastic ban does not seek to address energy consumption, rather plastic waste & ocean pollution. Do better.

BBCWorld

BBCPolitics While Britain let’s illegals in as we are soft touch and people who smuggle them in know it the illegals take manual labour jobs jobs that are needed by

BBCWorld If we used plastics to make a plastic house? Now theres a thought' 99%

Foxes say locking the chicken coop at night only makes it worse for the chickens.

5 or 10p charge as Tesco express won't make much difference to 1.5 billion Chinese people pumping shit and rubbish into the ocean.

Reading that headline, then getting to who the source is...

There are plenty of roads, sheds park benches, and even affordable houses for the homeless, battery jars and I’m sure other items, that could be made out of all the plastic in the ocean + other waste plastic, and if we go back to glass for drinks 90% of plastic waste will go

Or y’know, they could help fund the important research that’s already going into alternatives such as kelp based packaging...

BBCWorld if BP says so...

Oh do Fxxk off Bob Dudley BP_plc you couldn't care less about the environment!! £ is all you care about! BP

BBCWorld Of course if you ban plastic then he can't sell his oil

BBCWorld We already f up planet

BBCWorld You know what else backfires? Oil tankers sailing near icebergs. Jizzspanners.

BBCPolitics Well that would be unique for an environmental project. And wheelie-bins were doing so well!

BBCWorld Fuck BP

BBCPolitics Really

BBCWorld Good read

BBCWorld Piss up a rope oil co.

BBCWorld Yeah, right...... more like your time has come bp

BBCPolitics And banning peanuts could make peanut butter nuttier.

Western world trying to ban. Third world hv no choice to not use it.

Just appease the shareholders. The argument from BP assumes trucks will keep running on gas. That shows how narrow-minded they have become.

BBCPolitics We need to figure out how to start small ( that’s with our daily shopping )

And I trust BP on environmental matters. Not.

Another point of view. My preference isn’t plastic.

BBCWorld Worse for their bottom line.

BP sounding desperate 👌👏👍🤣

Rubbish. What if we produce 80% more energy from renewable sources?

More energy only means more carbon emissions if the energy is dirty. Divestment from oil starting to hurt?

BBCWorld Errrr, yeh🙄

BBCPolitics BP? Yeah let's take environmental advice from BP. What next? Advice on landscape gardening from the memoirs of Fred West?

BBCPolitics Bollocks!

If they didn't do away with what we had in the past, paper everything to save trees haven't saved to many did it?

BBCPolitics Hmmmmmmmmm

BBCPolitics Lol. Cracker.

BBCPolitics Gosh! Can’t imagine why oil giant BP would say that.

BBCWorld Like neglecting safety in an oil rig in 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico could backfire. BP doesn't care.

BBCPolitics BP is spot on. Unsurprisingly.

BBCWorld Well I trust BP more than the WORLDS NUMBER 1 fake news channel.

BBCWorld That is because they turn the recycled plastic into oil. No plastic to recycle, no synthetic oil. With hybrids and people driving less, its not a problem though

Hmmmm, profound that.

BBCWorld Not enough looking at the big picture in so many things.

BBCWorld swachhsurat, MySuratMySMC OurSMC

BBCWorld The problem is not the UK or the US or the EU... ⬇️

So bloody what? It isnt CO2 that will kill us, its toxic pollution of the oceans and biosphere. Entering the final stages of the 6thMassExtinction makes companies like BP public enemy No1. Its time control of these companies was tightened till they scream.

BBCWorld I have the feeling not many people actually read the article and just shoot from the hip. The man's essential point was valid: 'Yes, we should be concerned about plastics, but before we start whacking that mole, we should worry about where it pops up somewhere else.'

How so? Saving tree in exchange for using plastics has polluted the environment. Kinda funny how “save the planet” environmentalists ended up littering the planet with plastics.

BBCWorld No different to all the projectfear on brexit you keep putting out

BBCWorld No bias there!

Yeah, because just GUESS what plastics are made of? PETROLEUM derivatives. So of COURSE he's gonna say that. We only have one earth, people.

I mean if we can't trust an a giant oil corporation to consider what's best for the environment, who CAN we trust?

BBCWorld Yep,what could be worse than plastic clogging up the sea Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yeah Oil Slicks

I’m from Texas and I don’t believe anything BP says. It’ll only mean that they sell less petroleum!

From the article, 'Danish company Arla is already introducing wood-based bioplastic cartons for milk that can be recycled just liked cardboard.' Or, you could just use a cardboard container for you milk....

Shock headline......man from Oil company doesnt want people to stop using.......Oil........well oil be damned.

BBCWorld In other news, the NRA released a statement saying any ban on assault weapons will only make existing assault rifles sentient, causing them to spontaneously reproduce, creating a virtually unlimited number of sentient, blood-thirtsy guns that will require other guns to kill.

BBCWorld There are plenty of alternatives to plastic besides glass that use less energy to produce such as bio-plastic. This sounds like a cigarette company in the 50’s.

I had a boss who insisted that I never bring forthba problem with out some thought to the path forward. It's time for naysayers to provide their thoughts on how to solve problems.

BBCWorld 😂😂

BBCWorld In other news, McDonalds insists not eating double beef burgers is bad for your health.

Well they would say that wouldn’t they.

We can ban plastics next month. But it's Going to take years if not decades to clean up the world that we have all caused. Replace plastic with What Cutting down trees to make paper bags is not the answer.

They would say that wouldn't they.

BBCWorld Who said 😏🤔

Oh for the love of,, get a feckin grip,, as if!!!!

BBCWorld And plastic is a by product of ?

BBCWorld Oil contains carbon compounds. Guess what goes into making plastics? You only care for your profit lines, you money grabbing shysters!!

How about we ban unnecessary products , pretty much 90% of consumer items are bad for the planet , bad for people and completely pointless, which only bring empty joy for a fleeting moment that has a long lasting effect on the environment.

In other news: Cadbury announces that stopping eating chocolate could actually increase obesity levels.

Time to start thinking differently and to stop the pathetically weak arguments that allow you to keep damaging the only planet we have. We aren't politicians, we can't be easily manipulated and lied to. You've made enough money, you really don't need any more.

BBCWorld Ban plastics

What would my son's foot splints be made out of if plastic is banned? Glass, metal and paper are not viable options.

'The oil and gas company *believes*....' -- See what the BBC obediently did there...? medialens

BBCNorthAmerica Is this real? Plastics are made from oil-- what the hell do you think they are going to say?

“Oil giant BP claims”

Nothin to do with their profits then😂

And what's plastic made from boys and girls?

And this comes from a Petroleum Company?

BBC scare mongering again And no you are still not having my licence money after 6 years of you trying to get it the court says stop sending you people. If only everyone knew they didn't have to pay.

They ought to try telling that to all those school kids on strike today + show the YT video of 12-13 year old girl at the 1992 UN Conference on climate-changes that will effect next generations of kids (NOT THE NEXT GENERATION) but Generation/S !

Anyone fancy playing rdr2online

Says the BIG OIL COMPANY

What you want them to say? And the argument it's that thin! Implement first renewable energy and after be concerned about switching plastic for glass. We will talk about this issue when you'll produce some fkin green energy! Worldwide ideally!! Damn.

Literally the last people you should trust on plastics are oil and gas companies

Maybe they have an interest in plastic production, just a thought 🖕

Yeah... That 2040 time frame isn't going to work. Thanks for the 'everything is fine' oil industry propaganda.

BP_plc best to sit this one out

We're doing something right .. the oil companies are worried 👍👍

Does BP care for the environment though?

And WHY would anyone believe anything BP Oil says, especially about the environment? Remember Deepwater Horizon!!!

Because the animals are now addicted to plastic?

If we are to ban it, it needs to be a world wide ban. Developed nations have been battling this for years yet developing nations are blind to it

Who help make plastic

Well they would wouldn't they. When have BP ever cared about the environment?

🤔

wow!

So plastics isn't one of the world's great evils? & I thought it was!

Not sure he said that. He said - correctly - that alternatives to plastic bags use more energy to produce. It depends how that energy has been generated.

Of course THEY would say that...
