While owner Jack Kuyer retired, his beloved Burnaby business has been resurrected.

A longtime Burnaby bakery that bid farewell to the community in July after 65 years is sticking around.

"Good news to all our dear customers, Valley Bakery will continue to operate under a new management starting Friday, Aug. 25. We hope you will continue to support us," a sign reads in Valley Bakery's window from the new management. "Besides being one of the few real, true and outstanding legacy businesses in Burnaby; the little told story is the decades of selfless time, energy and leadership Jack Kuyer gave to the Heights Merchant Association and the Burnaby Board of Trade. Both associations greatly benefitted from his hundreds of hours of volunteer time and, it is safe to say, would not have succeeded as they have without him," said Brad Alden on the NOW's Instagram post.

On Friday , initially slated to be Valley Bakery’s final day of operations, the Burnaby Heights community bid a grand farewell to Kuyer, the legacy he built and sent off Kuyer in the grandest of fashion. Kuyer also donned other hats in the community: one of the co-founders of the Heights Merchants Association, of the Business Improvement Area and the co-founder of Hats Off Day.
