Car makers plan to invest more than $90 billion on the shift to electric vehicles over the next decade or so, predicts a Reuters analysis. But experts say electric won't replace gas-powered cars entirely for quite some time.

In the year 3000 maybe

We have a few great electric cars with 238-258 mile range; several great options arriving in 2020. Fast charging infrastructure is finally improving much more rapidly (Electrify America) and between pollution and killing brown people across the world for oil, it’s high time.

I have 2013 Chevy volt. Hybrid. 7 gallon gas tank. 500 mile trip needs only 1.5 fill-ups. Downside: not roomy enough for adults in back. Low to ground not good for snow. Only on pure electric 37F and above. Not exactly a cold weather fit. Idk about later models.

Did you mean to publish this again? I think I’ve seen this article every year for the last 15 years. Meanwhile the internal combustion engine just keeps going.

Yaaa... electric cars would be nice. But for all of us who don’t have savings and live paycheck to paycheck WTF are we supposed to do? Are the environmentalists going to buy us all electric cars? Until an electric car costs less then 10k I’m not gonna be able to switch.

“Environmental activists” know that batteries are just as harmful for the environment. So the “environmental activists” you report about are not environmentalists.

Just more future poison being put in our air, water. If government would stop subsidizing this it would not even be considered as viable. For hybrids they should be required to keep the carcinogens in the car, so the rest of us do not have to breath them.

For all you folks that live in high rises and condos; how will you charge your vehicle if a building has 200 tenants and 5-10 charging stations? Oh and everyone on the block or in the neighborhood can charge all at once.

Trucks don’t seem to be part of the conversation - what are we doing about that - considering that trucks are a big part of the transportation emissions

Do these “environmentalists” realize the amount of mining and deforestation required, and also the CHILD LABOR to produce the nickel and cobalt for electric car batteries ? AND how about those almond and soy farms?

There’s no doubt that we have the technology today to do away with the primitive internal combustion engine. However as long as fossil fuels continue to be a cash cow for the petroleum industry, that will not change anytime soon.

What fuel will be used to create the electricity

An affordable electric Subaru Forester would be cool, as would an affordable electric compact pickup. It will probably be many, many, years before that happens.

This is good. Electric cars are the future

Hopefully no future!

Was only Britain that was conned into diesel, some of them anyway. Those that knew about particulates couldn't understand how science could be hidden.

I’ll never NEVER buy and electric vehicle!!!

Who the f- can afford one? The elitist liberals pulling in six figure salaries might be able to, but those of us that cant network into the do-nothing but have meetings, middle mgmt jobs can’t

Need electric vehicles with 4 wheel drive and towing capacity.

If you can come up with a fuel cell car with range and reliability of gas/diesel that doesn't need a mortgage payment. I would think about it. Just not practical right now.

Electric vehicles are trash. Until they can compete with gasoline, they're not gonna get most people's business.

then whats the point we’ll all be doomed

Quit trying to make electric cars happen.

Actually most new car sales are Trucks and SUVs.

most NATIONS on this planet -- not just environmental activists -- call for a rapid transition to renewables. even US national security officials insist climate action is needed NOW government must push the transition to electric vehicles

I'd love to have a car that's more eco friendly, but who can afford one? And where do I recharge it? I like to travel. I think it will take even longer for people to make the move

Some of us live in rural areas. Electric cars just do not have the range needed. There is also a total lack of infrastructure to support them either.

Gasoline cars are a far more efficient use of fuel than electric cars. More than 70% of the energy used to create the electricity is wasted before it ever gets to the electric motor. Electric cars create an illusion of clean efficiency.

Still no reports of Democrats taking down the walls around their homes, giving up petroleum base transportation or gun based security.

I can see a period when people will own 2 cars, an electric for in town, and a gas for road trips

Time to build the Electric infrastructure

When inflation is out of control, and wages barely move, who needs or wants a new car. They’re too expensive, as are cars in general now. Considering going careless actually on purpose. Spent probably $100k on cars in the last 10 years. What a waste!!
