Victorian Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan has refused to condemn the flawed business case behind the state’s bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2026.

who was has been scathing of the document, describing it as “hardly the greatest piece of work” earlier this week.

“The business case was undertaken at a point in time, the end of 2021, early 2022,” she told reporters on Thursday. Ms Allan also cited several factors that she believes contributed to the cost blowout, including the war in Ukraine, COVID-19, China, and interest rate hikes. On Saturday it was revealed taxpayers will be slapped with a bill of $380 million following negotiations in the wake the cancellation, which was attributed to a major cost blowout back in July.
