He was twice passed over for a promotion to assistant coach at SDSU. NCAA rules changed this year, however, allowing additional staffers to “coach” on the court during practice and actively recruit; previously, only the head coach and his three designated assistants could. Before that, he spent a combined 13 years with the men’s programs at Cal and Oregon State. He was on Fisher’s initial staff at SDSU and was promoted to assistant coach in 2002.
