Denise Joshi opened her business despite having no previous experience

Nestled on Anfield's Utting Avenue is a small independent store fulfilling the dreams of vegans from all across the region - Plant Vegan.

Denise's husband, Sam, 47, was supportive of the sudden lifestyle switch as it "made sense to do it." Denise added: "I was looking in Liverpool because I knew I'd end up moving back eventually. Sam is originally from Manchester but we'd go back to visit my family all the time or go out and we'd take the dog with us. It used to bark all the way there and back in the car - it did our heads in.

"The renovation was easy because my parents did most of it. I only asked them to help out a little bit here and there but I went on holiday to Turkey and came back to everything painted and decorated. I couldn't believe it. I felt so bad - I think I still owe them a present!" The Beehive remained open until 2014 before eventually closing its doors due to the strain. Denise rented the property out to another business that worked independently of her influence while she took on a full-time job at Very.

After much debate, Denise decided to open a plant-based store we know today as Plant Vegan on the back of her experience as a vegetarian. She added: "I've been a vegetarian for more than 20 years and I was vegan for about five years but I loved cheese too much. I don't know how people could give up cheese. I still wanted it to be vegan, though.
