Hyndburn Council is seeking the cash to remodel the inside of the Market Chambers in Accrington

A local authority has submitted its £5million bid for National Lottery cash to transform one of its landmark town centre buildings into an arts, culture and heritage centre.

Now the authority has formally submitted its £5million bid to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for the interior of the building with illustrations of how it will look if completed. Council bosses hope this will be a further step on the transformational journey of a heritage-led future for Accrington and Hyndburn and will transform the Market Chambers building opposite the Grade II listed Market Hall.

The proposed new cultural heritage centre would include immersive and interactive experiences. The proposals also include a performance venue, an activity/events space and a cafe/restaurant. “It reflects our heritage and also looks to what future generations want to see and experience.” Gillian Berry, the council’s arts and heritage manager, said: ““It is a really exciting time for Hyndburn and I am proud to have been part of the group who have helped to steer this bid.
