The Hang Seng Index HSI, +0.21% of Hong Kong companies gained 0.2% to 18,047.92, while the Nikkei 225 Index NIK, +1.41% of Japanese companies increased 1.4% to 33,168.10.

Shares of oil exploration firm Idemitsu Kosan 5019, +4.76% and shipbuilding company Mitsui E&S 7003, +4.50% added 4.8% and 4.5%, respectively. Among Hang Seng Index constituents, integrated oil/gas company PetroChina 857, +5.83% saw the largest increase Thursday, as shares increased 5.8%.
