A U.S. appeals court ruled on Feb. 26 that AT&T’s $85 billion deal for Time Warner does not violate antitrust laws, handing a defeat to federal antitrust enforcers. The decision affirms a lower court’s ruling in June.
The Department of Justice sued to block the merger in November 2017. In its complaint the government said if the merger were to proceed, “the newly combined company would use its control of Time Warner’s popular programming as a weapon to harm competition.”
