Walmart’s checkout speed is 'the slowest in the industry,' according to the latest consumer satisfaction survey.

Walmart’s checkout speed is "the slowest in the industry," according to the latest consumer satisfaction survey.Joe Raedle / Getty ImagesGet breaking news alerts and special reports. The news and stories that matter, delivered weekday mornings. When it comes to satisfying their customers, most U.S. retailers — both brick-and-mortar and online — are losing ground for the second year in a row, according to an annual consumer satisfaction survey.

Customers surveyed did not see any improvement in the online shopping experience since last year and felt most aspects of the process — including desktop checkout, navigation and site performance — have deteriorated. Mobile apps are the one bright spot, earning high marks for quality and reliability.

Other internet retailers that did well: Etsy, Kohl’s, Nike and Nordstrom all scored an 81; Apple, eBay, HP Store, Macy’s, Newegg, Overstock, Target and Wayfair all had an 80. Walmart and Sears were at the bottom of the list.Costco also takes the top spot in the department and discount store category, with an 83. Sam’s Club is close behind at 80. Both had the same scores from last year, even though customer satisfaction with the category dropped 1.3 percent to an ACSI score of 76.

Walmart’s score rose 1 percent, but with a 72, it’s in next to last place. “Walmart’s checkout speed is the slowest in the industry and its staff are less courteous than its competitors,” the report said. Beleaguered Sears, which struggles to say alive, slipped another 4 percent to score an all-time low of 70.The nation’s supermarkets also took it on the chin, with customer satisfaction in this category down 1.3 percent, for an ACSI score of 78.

Two traditionally high-performing chains, Trader Joe’s and Wegmans, continued to shine with even higher scores this year. With an ACSI score of 86, Trader Joe’s is not only the highest-rated supermarket, it’s the highest-rated retailer in this survey. Wegmans is a close second at 85, followed by Aldi and Publix at 84, Costco , H-E-B and Sam’s Club . Walmart holds on to its perennial last place, with a 72, down 1 percent.

Considering the importance of retail to overall consumer spending, the continued decline in customer satisfaction cannot be taken lightly.

I refuse to use the self check out at walmart , does my merchandise get any cheaper because i use the self check NO IT DOSNT REFUSE TO USE THE SELF CHECK OUT at any store

Minority related of course

Who really cares?

They should go to target. That store should change its name to “one lane open”.

Probably because Cindy Walmart wants to discuss the type of tampon I use and why I like that particular brand. Because that’s what I want to discuss when checking out of hell. Lord knows we can only have 2 items per bag too.

Noooo McDonald's drive thru in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania got you beat! Sorry😏

To the surprise of non one!

It does not matter. People still going there and keep making richer the rich...

I’m not surprised.

Our kroger just announced they will only have one cashier after 7pm. They have cut hours for staff and neighborhood kids refuse to work there due to low pay. Shelves are spotty, and milk jugs are filthy. They enjoyed that Trump tax break though. This is why Unions are essential.

Our store has recently went almost all self check. I will still use cashiers.

Well I am shocked, as I stand in line, third day now.

So true.

If you can find a register manned by an actual clerk, they usually want to chat rather than check you out & they have no idea how to pack groceries. Not to mention the comments I get for bringing my own bags so I don't end up with dozens of plastic bags containing only 1 item.

This hasn't been my experience. I wonder if the people putting out this survey searched the country for the City with the slowest Walmart before gathering data?

Maybe we should give them another tax break? They can get more self check out lanes.

They needed a study to say this

We dont have our best and brightest going through the lines. Plus food stamps and other attempted frauds/theft take longer times.

Another reason not to shop there.

Have to agree. Only go if absolutely no other choice at the time. And when I go- I know I’m in for a miserable experiences

You can get it faster if you order it online.

I have a system for getting in and out of Walmart in a hurry. A lot of pitfalls to avoid.

It’s the slowest because they’ve pushed self-service checkout vs paying cashiers and baggers to provide checkout services. Machines got the jobs and humanity lost value.

You ever used self check out at Walmart? That’s slow as fuck too

Selfie checkouts?

Yeah and water is wet. Duh.

Well duh! The one over by me NEVER hass more than 5 lanes open

That's because they make their shoppers do self check-out.

A benchmark they've carried over to Sam's Club, as well..

Walmart is ass.

Walmart is loaded with dmmmies. The one near me really suxcks. All of the dmmmies are also mean and have necks colored red. They are only employees but they think they own the store and they do whatever they want. The normal people quit and go to work for publix next door

And good luck getting a cashier to talk to you besides just saying the final cost.

Maybe Trump can tweet them, tell them to speed it up!

Walmart has 1,000 checkout lanes, but they only keep 3 open! 🤬

Your wasted time in line saves the multi-billionaire Walton family labor costs.

I was there last Saturday morning, it’s unbelievable slow. Finally, I decided to give up shopping at Walmart.

They hardly hire people😟

When profits are the only thing that drives a company, we all suffer.

I shop at 3 different Walmart and have NEVER found their check out was any slower then any other retailers or grocers.

Who really cares?

Don’t go to Walmart, problem solved.

Don't blame me, I don't use self check out

Well , that explains it 🎶

I used the self check out twice in one week with no help at Walmart,so they made me assistant manager

Good. Bring back the registers so people can have a job.

And you have to watch out for falling prices. I once got a concussion from one of them.

This is what you get with the least motivated team because of the shitty pay/benefits, self-checkout, and the worst in training. Fuck Walmart. They could have been a force for good but they decided to fuck over everyone at every level.

Big box retail is awful

They understaff the regular checkouts to push you to the self-checkouts. Personally, I'd rather wait in line a couple minutes and help save someone's job.

The check out clerks are mostly senior citizens. It's a good thing Walmart is one of the few companies that employs elders.

And they got rid of SavingsCatcher. It’s like they don’t want me shopping there.

By design You're supposed to be discouraged and turn around to buy more items so as to mentally justify the wait. I was a manager and that was actual strategy

Some of them at my store are really speedy, it's the ones that have to visit with every customer that take forever.

What do you expect with one lane open?

I would rather be checked out by a slow person than do it quickly myself. notawalmartemployee

Get rid of self check out. BRING HUMANS BACK!

That’s true. While everyone is at the express lanes I just go to the non-express lanes and I check out faster because there’s no line up .

that's because they only measure the self-checkout
