U.S. stocks opened lower on Wednesday after geopolitical tensions between long-time adversaries India and Pakistan escalated.

The conflict between the two nations regards the hotly contested region of Kashmir that borders both countries, and put a damper on global stocks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.10% opened the session down 0.3% at 25,992, the S&P 500 SPX, -0.07% fell 0.2% to 2,787 and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.06% began the session down 0.3% at 7,526. Back in the U.S.

, investors are watching Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell who is returning for his second day of congressional testimony in Washington, this time in front of the House Financial Services Committee beginning at 10 a.m. Eastern time.
