Dancers practice during auditions for the Extreme Action dance company in Brooklyn, N.Y. in January. To get hired by Elizabeth Streb’s company, applicants need certain skills— the ability to writhe inches below spinning steel beams, belly-flop off rafters and smash into plexiglass walls. Starting wage: $18 an hour.
