Surreal image featuring Potong Pasir HDB block one of world’s best pictures shot on iPhone.

Singaporean photographer Darren Soh, the man behind those gorgeous architectural images of iconic local buildings we told you about this summer , is once again being recognized — this time on the world stage, courtesy of Apple.

At first glance, it looks like one of those surreal images created by processing it through a painting filter app, but a longer look proves otherwise. According to Soh, he took it at a recently washed basketball court of a community club in the neighborhood. The shot earned him warm praise from Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller, who lauded the Singaporean photographer’s composition.

“You are compelled to think about where and how this photo was taken, the bird flying in the corner provides the single sign of life in an otherwise surreal composition.”
