Consumers' Federation Australia chair Gerard Brody has claimed consumer protection"simply doesn't exist" in the aviation industry as the Senate's inquiry into the sector begins gathering evidence.

He argued that broader competition concerns, as highlighted by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, needed urgent attention after"failure" by the industry to do the right thing by customers. As part of his evidence to the Senate, Mr Brody argued for protections covering bookings and ticketing, and delays and cancellations including requirements for defined compensation when those occur.
