South Ayrshire beach promenades are undergoing a facelift this week as part of a £1m investment from council chiefs.
Shorefront proms at Ayr, Newton and Troon are all receiving an upgrade which includes a major resurfacing job to roads, walkways and car parks. The move is part of a Tory pledge for each ward in South Ayrshire to receive a £1m investment. At Newton Shore work has begun to develop a newly resurfaced car park, carriageway and footpath. A new cycle lane will also be added.
The dark and dingy spot is also set to be lit up with solar powered lighting and ducting being installed. Two pedestrian crossings will also be added to allow safe access to the promenade and access will be improved to a raised grass area. Resurfacing works are also taking place at the promenades in Ayr and Troon.Mike Newall, Director of Housing Operations and Development at South Ayrshire Council, said: “I am delighted these works are underway as part of our Ward Capital Projects. They will help make the promenades accessible for all throughout the year.
