At the same time, the median square footage of new single-family homes in the U.S. increased 52% since 1980 to 2022, from 1,650 square feet to 2,383 square feet. At the other end of the spectrum, Cleveland, Ohio, home of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and broken sports hopes, is the least expensive city based on the price per square foot, at $133 per square foot. It has a median home price of $133,000.
