Preview of the Saskatoon Blades before the 2023\u002D24 Western Hockey League season, which begins with games against Regina and Prince Albert.

High-scoring forward Trevor Wong takes over the captaincy from graduating defenceman Aidan De La Gorgendiere.

Sonne said he will be counting on his leadership group to help mitigate any low points during a season of peaks and valleys. “You’re not really going to get better if you’re not 100 per cent into it, and that sounds easy enough, that we’ll just show up and be competitive and everything, but when you have 70-some or 80-some practices and you play 60-some games, there are times when you have lulls and that’s when we s coaches and leaders step in, and try and get everybody going again. It’s going to happen to the young guys, the old guys. We’ve just got to nip it in the bud as quickly as possible.

Graduating forward Josh Pillar has joined the University of Saskatchewan Huskies while lanky defenceman Blake Gustafson has moved on to the U Sports ranks with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.Blueline Samuel Barcik was taken in the 2023 Import Draft out of Slovakia. He is expected to make an immediate impact among the Blades’ top four D.
