Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Birmingham says Australians “want to see a strong Qantas” and has praised new CEO Vanessa Hudson for giving “positive indications” early in her role. Qantas is currently being scrutinised by a Senate inquiry following ACCC allegations they continued to sell tickets for flights that were cancelled. “I don’t want to be spending all my time bad-mouthing Qantas – I want to make sure the policy setting are right,” Mr Birmingham told Sky News Australia. “To ensure we have got a competitive aviation market in Australia that drives Qantas to be their best, that drives Virgin to be their best and that drives all of our airlines to be their best. “But also gives the best deal to Australian consumers.”
