Toys R Us is planning to expand its physical presence with more flagships and stores on cruise ships and in airports, parent company WHP GlobalAfter going bankrupt, Toys R Us closed its physical stores in 2018, and its first buyer post-bankruptcy aborted a previous mall-focused revival scheme due to the COVID-19 pandemic. WHP Global bought it in 2021.
In November, the chain’s first airport location will open in Terminal A at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, WHP Global said in a release. From there, the chain plans to open more flagship stores across America, and open further locations in other airports and on cruise ships. “The Toys R Us brand is growing fast and our expansion into air, land and sea is a testament to the brand’s strength … as we head into 2024, we are excited to bring Toys “R” Us to consumers everywhere, whether you’re visiting one of our stores at Macy’s, at our flagships, in an airport, or onboard a cruise ship,” WHP Global CEO Yehuda Shmidman said in a statement.
The company did not say which cruise lines or which specific ships would feature Toys” R” Us locations, nor did it specify where other flagship and airport stores might be opened. Previously, Toys R Us launched a flagship store at the American Dream mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey in 2021, and expanded to offering Toys “R” Us shops in 452 Macy’s stores nationwide in 2022.
