The tides are changing in Australia's billion-dollar wool industry as more women continue to weave their way into traditionally male-dominated careers.

Out of work and stuck for ideas about what to do next in her life, Evynn Roberts went to a basketball match. She has 30 women taking part in her wool classer course, and only three menthe courtside benches, a chance meeting set the 26-year-old on a career path many people do not associate with young women — the wool industry.

"I'd been jumping between jobs and had run out of work, so anyway, one night I went to a basketball grand final and I met this farmer there," Ms Roberts said. "I ended up just going in on his farm as a learner roustabout. I'd had absolutely no experience ever being on a farm.""I just love it, every aspect of the farm," she said.

"The wool, the sheep, I enjoy learning about it, even lamb marking and tailing, showing that I can do it and that you don't have to be a boy to do it."Once a shearer has expertly parted a sheep from its fleece, the wool classer takes over. However, Ms Roberts is far from the only woman leading the way in the traditionally blokey industry — 30 out of the 33 students in her class are women.

They should try their hand at sheep-herding.

Wool is a safe industry no wonder they want it, they don't wanna risk it doing a real male job.
