Cable companies are growing their broadband subscriber base, but it comes at the expense of telcos and the trend will continue, according to a new research note from UBS. Analysts expect cable to continue to eat into telecom's market share, growing to 69% of the market by 2020. Cable companies are winning broadband share from telecom companies because they have a speed advantage, UBS wrote. Nearly all of its footprint can access 1 gigabit speeds. Telecom companies, on the other hand, can offer access to gigabit speeds in about 25% of their footprint.
