Delta Air Lines will get a hard look from Wall Street when it posts earnings before Thursday’s opening bell. Two pressing concerns: Demand and fuel costs.
And what about fuel costs? Oil prices have been headed up in the past several weeks and spiked over the weekend after the Hamas attack on Israel. Will the war keep oil higher for the next quarter? Or even the next year? United Airlines , as an example, could save $80 million a year or almost 1% in overall fuel expenses if the average passenger weight dropped by 10 pounds, according to analyst Sheila Kahyaoglu.
