Former PwC Australia CEO Luke Sayers asked ATO second commissioner Jeremy Hirschhorn for the agency’s view about now-former partner Tom Seymour potentially becoming CEO of the firm. Seymour ultimately succeeded Sayers as chief executive of PwC in 2020, before departing amid the fallout from the tax leaks scandal, but at the time was one of a small number of senior staff jockeying for the top job.
I think getting feedback from the market and feedback from regulators that feedback from inside the firm on a potential candidates fit and proper approach is absolutely .” The ATO and PwC had several disputes during that time, but Sayers said the two organisations were actually acting “hand in glove”. Hirschhorn, Sayers tells the committee, said he had seen Seymour mature as a leader but declined to provide feedback on him as a potential CEO because it would be inappropriate.
