Vulnerable and shocked: Patients targeted by hospital revenue push | ColinJKruger

on how public hospitals are adopting aggressive tactics to push more patients to use their health insurance even if it offers no material benefit for them.Others to come forward include legal experts and medical professionals who have slammed the practise as rampant and potentially a form of fraud.

"Keep in mind this was late, I was alone, and had been sleeping when she came to see me," said Dr Baumfield.Despite making it clear that she wanted to remain a public patient, she discovered the officer had checked the 'yes' box to a question asking if she wanted to go private. The officer later said she had pre-checked the box and had "forgotten" to cross it out.

Sydney University lecturer Richard Hanney said the practice of cash-strapped public hospitals targeting privately insured patients is "aggressive, deliberate and structured". Ahead of an election on Saturday, NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard decline to comment when asked whether there was a growing problem with hospitals adopting these tactics.

ColinJKruger This is utter bullshit and beat up. Patients in public hospitals are always asked about their insurance details on admission and have been for decades. It was current practice when I trained inthe 1980s beatup fakenews fairfaxbs

ColinJKruger This is unconscionable. But so is taxpayer funds going to private health insurance companies rather than public hospitals. Get rid of the 30% private health rebate and fund public hospitals. It’s not difficult. Then people won’t get harassed by overstretched public hospital staff

LostMillions ColinJKruger We have cases of Hospitals signing up vulnerable people to new wills & powersofattorney so this does not shock us

ColinJKruger In India Too. I was hospitalised for wheezing for a week in a well known private hospital at Bangalore, India, not allowed my immediate good persons to see me. Unwanted so many tests.
