Ratcliffe has brought investment in players and infrastructure to Nice, and there are mixed feelings in France about his latest venture

A visit from big-spending is always hotly anticipated around France. It’s a chance to bloody the noses of the perennial champions and see their stars up close — and, ideally, defeat them. OGC Nice are no different. Unsurprisingly, when pulled into town earlier this month, the game prompted Nice’s highest league attendance of the season, surpassing 30,000. But there was a little more to this game than initially met the eye.

“They didn’t come to Nice to make money, that’s for sure,” says Humberset. Off the field, they have invested as well: they are in the process of rebuilding the training-centre building, with a view to expanding it. “Additional training fields and a building open to INEOS Sport and all its sections are among the projects underway,” a dds Humberset. “It represents a very significant financial investment.” That is appreciated by fans unanimously.
