A man has been left in a serious condition after a horrific early morning attack by unknown offenders, believed to be armed with an axe, in Toowoomba. Emergency services were called to a Rockville address to assist a 68-year-old man who had sustained “lacerations to his chest” due to a “serious assault” about 6.20am Wednesday, according to Queensland police. The man was taken to Toowoomba Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Detectives have established a crime scene and investigations are ongoing. Neighbours of the injured man spoke to 7NEWS saying they were in “absolute shock”. One neighbour who has lived next to the injured man for 40 years told reporters he feels they “don’t live in a safe neighbourhood anymore”. “There’s just no safety anymore,” he said. “We’re jailed in our own homes.” Police are still searching for persons of interest and urge anyone with information to come forward.
