ILOILO CITY – The Competitiveness Bureau of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has awarded local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas for improving their competitiveness.

THE Iloilo city government is awarded the Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City in Western Visayas region.

DTI-6 OIC Director Ermelinda Pollentes said the annual award is a benchmark for other LGUs to enhance their competitiveness efforts and improve their standing. The award was the result of the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index which ranked performances of LGUs based on government efficiency, economic dynamism, infrastructure, resiliency, and innovation.

The CMCI awarded this city as the Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City and the Most Improved Highly Urbanized City.Roxas City, the capital of Capiz, was named the Most Improved Component City.Leganes in Iloilo was feted as the Most Improved 3rd-4th Class Municipality while Mina, also in Iloilo, was the Most Improved 5th-6th Class Municipality.

CMCI is an annual ranking of Philippine cities and municipalities developed by the National Competitiveness Council with assistance from the United States Agency for International Development .
