The 99-year lease held by Chinese company Landbridge on the northern port of Darwin will continue after a review ruled out any major security concerns.

Landbridge was awarded a 99-year lease on the port in 2015 by the Northern Territory however at the time the US Obama administration warned the Turnbull government about the deal over concerns the company may have had links to the People's Liberation Army of China.

The government accepted the advice provided and confirmed"monitoring of security arrangements around the Port of Darwin will continue." Shadow home affairs minister James Paterson hit out at the government for"cynically" dropping the news late on Friday afternoon. Australians deserve much more transparency when it comes to sensitive & important matters of national security. They deserve answers as to why the PMs previous concern about this issue has now evaporated.Northern Territory Chief Minister Natasha Fyles"acknowledged" the findings of the report howveer she remained frustrated at the 2015 decision arguing it"would not have been made under a Labor government.
