More than one million people have fled their homes in the Gaza Strip as Israeli air strikes continue to pound the Palestinian enclave.

STAFF REPORT A homeless mother and her son hanged themselves behind a Dothan business on Wednesday evening, according to law enforcement officials.

Houston County coroner Robert Byrd told WDHN the mother, 80, and the son, 55, bought phone charging cords from a store on Ross Clark Circle before going behind the property and tying them to the railing of a dumpster. When the bodies were discovered, mother and son were holding hands, and Byrd noted that the knots were identical on the makeshift nooses tied to a handrail along a walkway behind a store near the intersection of Ross Clark Circle and Bauman Drive.

The coroner’s office located a relative in Texas who said the mother and son had relocated to Key West a few years ago, and had been in Dothan for a few weeks. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available.
