Rental properties in South Africa have faced a mixed year, with vacancy rates varying significantly across the country.
“However, in real terms, rentals are in negative territory, after deducting consumer inflation,” the Report said. The national average currently stands at 6.9%, which has led to an increase in rental growth to 3.5% in Q2, data from Stats SA shows. “Rode data shows that flats in smaller towns, like Stellenbosch and George, have virtually zero vacancies.”
