Stocks in the Asia-Pacific region decreased Monday, Oct. 23, Japanese shares declining for the third day.

The Shanghai Composite Index SHCOMP, -1.47% of Chinese companies weakened 1.5% to 2,939.29, and Singapore's FTSE Straits Times Index STI, -0.76% declined 0.6% to 3,057.90. The KOSPI Composite Index 180721, -0.76% of South Korean stocks fell 0.8% to 2,357.02, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Benchmark Index XJO, -0.82% declined 0.8% to 6,844.10.

Shares of pharmaceuticals firm Daiichi Sankyo 4568, +2.93% and pharmaceuticals company Astellas Pharma 4503, +2.74% rose 2.9% and 2.7%, respectively.
