An industry source briefed on the investigation confirmed that a third-party investigative firm brought this information to the NCAA.

The scouting and sign-stealing investigation into the Michigan football program began with an outside investigative firm collecting documents and videos that it presented to the NCAA, according to a report in the Washington Post published Wednesday.

The detailed plan would spend more than $15,000 to send scouts to more than 40 games played by 10 opponents, according to the Post. Stalions’ listed salary is $55,000. Stalions bought tickets to games in at least seven Big Ten stadiums before those teams played the Wolverines over the past three seasons, including the 2023 season, sources told The Athletic earlier this week.
