The Hang Seng Index HSI, -0.24% of Hong Kong companies declined 0.2% to 17,044.61, while the Nikkei 225 Index NIK, -2.14% of Japanese companies declined 2.1% to 30,601.78.

Shares of semiconductors firms SCREEN Holdings 7735, -5.61% Tokyo Electron 8035, -5.03% weakened 5.6% and 5.0%, respectively. Among the Hang Seng Index constituents, sporting goods retailing company Li Ning 2331, -20.70% saw the largest drop in Hong Kong, as shares cratered 20.7% on Thursday.
