The government has imported ten fuel shipments, with distribution expected to take a few days. Local refineries supply 80% of the market, while the rest comes from imports. The shortage has added to the frustrations of Argentines already facing an economic crisis with high inflation and a depreciating currency.

Royon attributed the shortage in part to tourism during a long weekend and rumors of possible price increases following the Oct. 22 presidential election. The run-off vote is Nov. 19.Argentine refineries supply 80% of the local market while the rest comes from fuel imports.
