GM has responded to a series of angry tweets from President Trump demanding that the automaker reopen or sell a plant it recently closed

New York GM responded late Sunday to a series of angry tweets from President Donald Trump demanding that the automaker reopen or sell a plant it recently closed because of shifting customer demand.

"To be clear, under the terms of the UAW-GM National Agreement, the ultimate future of the unallocated plants will be resolved between GM and the UAW," GM said in a statement, referring to the United Automobile Workers union. The automaker announced a major global restructuring in November, including the closure of four US plants and another in Canada. It said it would cut 8,000 salaried and contract jobs, representing a 15% reduction in its workforce.GM is gone.

— Donald J. Trump March 17, 2019 GM said in its statement Sunday that its main focus was offering employees jobs in other plants"where we have growth opportunities.""We have now placed over 1,000 employees from our unallocated plants to other GM locations, and we have opportunities available for virtually all impacted employees," it added.

— Donald J. Trump March 17, 2019 Brian Rothenberg, a spokesman for UAW International, said that the union's focus is on its members and that it"will leave no stone unturned in working to keep the plants open."Trump's GM tweets capped a day of presidential fuming on social media. In addition to GM, the president slammed Democrats and even Fox News anchors. He also called for Jeanine Pirro's return to Fox after the network suspended her.

When the government controls the private sector and jobs, isn't that called socialism?

realdonaldtrump Stay out of our automakers private sector! You've smeared fecal matter all over our public sector, you walking obscenity! Americans do NOT see your tweets as divine revelations! We see a nutbag who needs 2 be tranquilized & placed in a padded cell for our safety.

It is so, so overly apparent that GM would reopen the Lordstown facility if the union is not part of the facility. GM does not need union involvement. The best thing would be if Amazon bought the property. Midway between Pitt & Clev and midway between NY and Chico.

I want to buy an electric powered vehicle, however if I take a trip, there are no guarantees that there would be recharging facilities. It would take 10-52 hours to recharge the vehicle. What if the que is long. Electric vehicles at this time are impractical. A bad buy

How much money did GM take from taxpayers?

Plant for sale!...Tesla buyer? Cause GM and UAW will decide its fate without realDonaldTrump or

Yea be clear.

Putting realdonaldtrump potus in his place. This is how a feckless and weak president is treated after he tears down America and sides with Russians and racists and liars. RIP America, Putin's wishes fulfilled. FakePresident

It’s a shame this plant is closing but remember it was Obama who bailed out GM instead of forcing them to restructure privately like Ford and Chrysler/Dodge did ,no market for low end EVs but Obama’s OLD GREEN DEAL was genius 👏👏👏🤣

The UAW should be expelled.

That's it, GM is out of Trump's circle of trust!😆

Under TRump's logic the Taj Mahal and all his other failed businesses would still be open. Does any rational person think he considered his employees or bond holders when he closed them? $ always comes first for the Donald.

At least Trump made and is making the effort. That’s why we elected him. You still don’t get it

Good for you GM. Trump has no business to criticize you ar all. Esp how many bankruptcies has he been involved in? Think twice any deal or promises he has to offer.

Mexico will pay for the wall; big coal is coming back; new auto plants are coming; etc.... has he ever been right yet? NO!!

'To be clear' TRUMP is a LIAR who in-effect BS'ed voters with promises of ETERNAL AUTO-INDUSTRY employment.

you are invited to see my account

Trump has NO place to try to tell GM or anyone else how to run their business Trump wont even bring his products from China back to the USA he really has no place to talk about anyone

other words, GM will acquiesce to *46-1's demand 'I don't care, I just want it open!', thus a political won for *46-1. If the reason for the closing was lack of demand for the Cruze, and/or tariffs, then GM needs to own that reasoning, and tell *46-1 to shove it!

While I do support President Trump most times, there are times I don’t and this is one of them. Let the company and UAW decide what is best for their company, this plant in particular.

CNN has already buried the Dutch Transit Shooter Story as Soon as he was identified as a Muslim with ISIS connections... Where the Obama is a Muslim extremist stories?

.....

Us liberals need to stand together and not let Trump create any more jobs!! I’m sick and tired of having to work.

Because their decision making has done wonders so far.
