The new company, which will be called Six Flags, will feature a combined 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks and nine resorts across 17 states, Canada and Mexico. A press statement called the transaction a “merger of equals.”

Updated: Nov. 02, 2023, 8:20 a.m.Cedar Fair and Six Flags have agreed to merge, creating a company with 42 amusement and water parks, including Cedar Point in Sandusky.SANDUSKY, Ohio – Rival amusement park companies Cedar Fair and Six Flags have agreed to join, creating a new company – called Six Flags – that will be headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, the two companies announced early Thursday.

The newly formed board of directors will consist of 12 directors, six from Cedar Fair and six from Six Flags. industry consultant Dennis Speigel said a merger between the two companies would result in the largest regional theme park company in the world. The news, however, will come as a blow to Sandusky, which has been the headquarters of Cedar Fair since the company’s founding in 1983, after Cedar Point acquired Valleyfair amusement park near Minneapolis.
