Ford is riding the"big" wave by significantly boosting production of its mammoth Expedition for the second time in two years, as the latest version of its largest SUV continues to gobble up market share in a three-row utility-vehicle segment that just keeps expanding.
"This segment can and will continue to grow more," Van Dyke said."We're going to be aggressive with our marketing. And ultimately, product superiority will be very important." While Expedition has been stealing sales from several competing makes, GMC's Yukon has been among the biggest market-share losers during Expedition's surge, according to statistics that Ford provided.
Now, prompted by such robust consumer demand, Ford is increasing production of Navigator and Expedition by another 20 percent this year, by accelerating the assembly-line speed at the plant, adding more work stations, splitting up tasks, and even adding pits and platforms so more line operators working in the same area can execute tasks while complying with varying height requirements as the vehicle moves down the assembly line.
What a beaut
