Facebook on Thursday said that it had left 'hundreds of millions' of its users' passwords exposed in plain text, potentially visible to the company employees, marking another major privacy and security headache for a tech giant already under fire for mishandling people's personal information.

Facebook said it believed the passwords were not visible to anyone outside the company and had no evidence that its employees “internally abused or improperly accessed them.

The incident was first revealed by the Krebs on Security blog, which estimated the total number of affected users ranged between 200 million and 600 million. Facebook declined Thursday to confirm the estimate.

My school project had better password protection than this.

Any of their programmers or data engineers definitely knew this was wrong and downright dangerous. This isn't something that's easily overlooked.

Well that’s a lot of over -65’s worrried

Brilliant move, facebook

Me no like!!!!! Time to leave FB permanently.

This shouldn’t be surprising. My take is if you use social media of any kind you have to know your information is out there. It’s up to you what you put out there

If you haven't already cut yourself loose from FB/Instagram, you're leaving yourself very exposed.

SHADY ASS FACEBOOK always up to NO GOOD. Definitely not a FAN.

Oops! But they want to censor our posts for 'misinformation?' As if they know?

I’ll ask again for the fifth time: Why is anyone still on facebook?

Is this corrected or still a problem TODAY?
