The shopping centre was evacuated on Friday afternoon after the blaze broke out in the south side of the market hall

Manchester Arndale market remains closed today following a fire which resulted in the evacuation of the shopping centre. Firefighters were called to Arndale at about 4pm on Friday after a blaze broke on one of the food stalls in the south side of the market hall.

On Saturday morning Coun Pat Karney, Manchester council's city centre spokesperson, gave an update on the fire. He posted on X, formerly Twitter: "Following the fire on one of the food stalls last night which led to a evacuation of the centre the market is closed today to allow further investigations and clean up. We apologise for all this disruption but public safety always comes first.
