SA's largest privately owned retailer, Food Lover's Market, has told an inquiry into the fresh produce sector that it never forces its suppliers to simply accept low price offers or nothing at all.
In testimony at the Fresh Produce Market Inquiry hearings being held by the Competition Commission on Friday, the company said its price negotiations are dynamic affairs, with give and take on both sides of the table. Food Lover's Market's testimony follows that of Pick n Pay on Thursday in a two-day public inquiry set down this week. The competition watchdog is looking to gather information about whether any features of the fresh produce value chain impedes, restricts or distorts competition in the market.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
