by Tyler JeskiComing soon a CBS 21 news documentary: Dealers of the Dead: Inside the Body Parts Business For months CBS 21 has been reporting on the case surrounding Jeremy Pauley, the Cumberland County man connected to a multi-state ring of buying and selling stolen human body parts.
Pauley has pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit interstate transport of stolen property and interstate transportation of stolen property. He has not yet been sentenced on those charges, but could face up to 15 years in prison. He has also pleaded guilty to Pennsylvania misdemeanor charges of abuse of a corpse. He is scheduled to be sentenced for those charges in March.
Investigations connected to Pauley led to arrests that have been made in Arkansas, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Kentucky. Over the months of covering this story, CBS 21 has learned it's not illegal to sell human body parts. In an upcoming CBS 21 documentary, our team takes a closer look at these cases, hearing from the people who say they don't know where their loved ones are, and we examine the legal side of selling human remains.
