A single mother has revealed her nightmare battle trying to reach Centrelink. More than seven million struggling Australians were hung up on by the department in 2023, it was revealed this week, and Kristen Pfitzner says she is one of the many still battling to get through to an operator.
Why Centrelink hangs up on shocking number of Australians. “I need a single-parent income and I need that to be able to apply for a house,” she told 7NEWS. “It’s not good enough.” She says calling is essentially pointless and new data shows why. The average wait time has blown out to 33 minutes, with many Australians spending hours in call queues and others failing to even reach an operator. More than seven million callers were sent to a congestion voicemail and two million gave up trying.
