Washington apples are delicious and sought-after all over the world. But one major market was all but closed to growers in our state for the past four years.

Donald Trump has defeated former S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley in the South Carolina primary, his fifth straight primary win in a row.A photo of a pile of Washington apples. India recently lifted a 20% tariff on apples that are exported from the state of Washington.

In 2018, India was the second biggest market for Washington apples. Washington provided 53% of the apples in India. After tariffs went into effect, our state’s share was only 1%. The effort to get those tariffs dropped was headed by Washington Senator Maria Cantwell. This week, she was joined at Terminal 46 in Seattle by port and trade officials to celebrate the return of Washington Apples to India.
