As sunlight trickled in and bounced off her handheld “rainbow cube”, Gabi Saper watched fascinated — a universe of colours was dancing around the walls of her home. It was this one simple, prototype ‘cube’ which, three years ago, was to launch Gabi’s multi-million-dollar business. At just 25, she set up her own enterprise, based on the rudimentary handheld cube that her fiancé had created using a 3D printer.
With more than 1000 pre-sale orders placed, she began to panic — could she actually fill the orders? Over the next few months, she scrambled to source a factory and supplier. Remarkably, she managed to create enough products to complete all the orders. In a small Kennard’s Hire storage unit, Enzo, Gabi, her mum and her best friend spent the day packing and sending out the orders. “There was no branding, no anything,” Gabi says. “Just the cube in a white box with CMY Cube written on the side.
