A 25-year-old man faces additional charges of manslaughter over the deaths of two young brothers in a horrific car crash in Sydney’s south. Xavier Abreu, 10, and his younger brother Peter, 9, were killed when a Subaru Impreza sedan they were travelling in crashed into a tree at Monterey on August 25, 2023. The driver, the boys’ cousin Jimmy Brito, 33, was later charged with two counts of aggravated dangerous driving causing death and one count of causing bodily harm by misconduct.
On Thursday police announced that, following “further inquiries”, the 25-year-old man has now also been charged with two counts of manslaughter. He will appear at Downing Centre Local Court on May 2. Brito, who remains in custody, will also appear in the same court on the same day. A 24-year-old woman, who police allege was a passenger in the Audi, remains on conditional bail charged with concealing a serious indictable offence. She is next due in court on April 11.
