This wouldn’t just put Australia in line with the 172 nations that have parliamentary terms of four or more years, including Canada and the UK. Most of all it would give future federal governments more precious political space to make contentious decisions, including the pressing reform backlog highlighted by the Business Council’s Mr Culbert.
