A man has died after he reportedly fell out of a hot air balloon basket above a residential street in Melbourne’s northeast. Emergency services were called to Preston around 7.30am on Monday after the man’s body was found on Albert St. The man is believed to have been riding in a hot air balloon when he fell out. The balloon made an emergency landing in nearby Yarra Bend Park a short time later and police were seen talking to people who were also on board.
The groups gave condolences to the man’s loved ones. “Hot-air balloon baskets are designed with safety in mind, specifically to prevent passengers from falling out accidentally or from any accidental exit,” the statement said. “Passengers and the pilot are understandably traumatised by this tragedy and the operator is arranging psychological support and counselling for all affected.
