NEW: Gun-rights advocates asked the U.S. Supreme Court to temporarily halt a new federal ban on bump stocks, the attachments that can make a semiautomatic rifle behave like a machine gun. The ban is scheduled to take effect today.

Bump stocks, devices that allow a semiautomatic firearm to shoot more than one shot with a single pull of the trigger, will be banned in the United States starting Tuesday.

"We are faithfully following President Trump's leadership by making clear that bump stocks, which turn semiautomatics into machine guns, are illegal, and we will continue to take illegal guns off of our streets," then-acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker said in December. Late Monday, the Supreme Court was considering an emergency request from Gun Owners of America, Gun Owners Foundation and the Virginia Citizens Defense League, to stay the ban on bump stocks while cases challenging the ban are appealed.

New zeland took care of it quickly What's the problem with this country?

why do you need an automatic weapon to hunt with Unless you're hunting humans

RT. SUPPORT THE BAN!!! The public deserves to be SAFE! PLEDGE - Vote every NRA supporter out in 2019, 2020, etc etc etc pbsnewshour abcnews

I'm baffled by people who put the lives of human beings above their love affair with guns Who or what are you planning to kill Planning a war Join an army there are lots who need your help all around the world If you're retired from the army why do you still enjoy killing

Who or what do they need to kill Idiot Human are more important than your love for killing something Planning a war join the army there are plenty going on all over the world Senseless love affair with guns

Will America ever learn from this gun culture & power of NRA. Saw a documentary on NRA said 37,000 Americans were killed by guns last year. That's bizarre.

Gun rights groups try last-ditch move to stop Trump ban on rapid-fire bump stocksUnder a federal rule, owners must destroy the devices by Monday or they could face felony charges. But...why?... It's not 'gun rights.' Inanimate objects, like concepts such as states, don't have rights. Individuals have rights. 'Gun owners rights' groups' is the appropriate way to word what you're saying. Also, bump stocks aren't 'rapid fire.' They don't fire anything. “Last ditch”... haha check out the constitution and get back to me
