California is moving to codify a sweeping court decision curbing employers’ use of independent contractors, and the new law is unlikely to exempt Uber, Lyft and other app-based technology companies.

Those occupations are already regulated by other statutes but adding them to the bill makes their exemption more explicit. “We don’t want to stop true independent contractors from having their own little businesses. But we don’t want to continue this farce of large businesses declaring their people are independent contractors. Uber and Lyft lose money as it is. I doubt they will stay around if they have to provide benefits, etc., to drivers.

Sad. Pretty soon no free will in CA and no personal choices. All government mandated.

Not understanding Uber Lyft weren’t made to make a living of off right it was for people to make supplemental income ?

But H-1B visas are still cool to keep down engineering and developer salaries, right? SMH

No worker should be able to escape the benevolent, loving claws of the state government.
